illegitimate
Question: My grandmother's birth certificate does not have a father on it, only a mother of which I cannot find any details. Her mother spent her formative years in St. George's Hospital London (Where it is possible she died). Can you suggest where I start to trace the line? Answer:
This strongly suggests that your grandmother was illegitimate. You do not provide any names or dates, but these should lead you to a Census return to discover the
alleged place of birth and siblings. It is even possible to find the putative father ! Come back to me with such information and i can advise further. principal@ihgs.ac.uk
